About The Reps
Conceived by
Rich Dangel and Tim Scott, The Reputations band was
an R&B/Rock/Blues/Soul/Jazz group made up of the best musicians in the
Northwest (a musicians' band) playing slightly more obscure but great
covers by classic artists, as well as original compositions by band
members. Not content to do tired arrangements of "Mustang
Sally", "Knock On Wood" and "Midnight Hour", The
Reps repertoire consisted of lesser known but more interesting cuts by
artists ranging from Ray Charles, Albert King, James Brown and Wilson
Pickett to The Crusaders, Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis and Horace Silver.
The recognition they received from their peers was reflected in their
being awarded The Seattle Music Award in 1982 for Best R&B Band. Aside
from the many great nationally-known artists they performed with, their
audiences were always filled with admiring performers like Robert Cray and
his band, Jr. Cadillac, Diane Schuur, and many others. Their two
main objectives were to make quality music and to have fun, the latter
always assured due to the spontaneous "stage-side
hijinks" of keyboardist/ vocalist Jeff Simmons (aka Little Bobby Sumpner
aka Darvon
Willis).
On
Thursday, December 5, 2002, good friend and
N.W. musical pioneer
Rich Dangel passed on, having just celebrated his 60th birthday.
He is dearly missed by friends, family & fans worldwide.
